George M. Dawson and the founding vision of CIM

George M. Dawson
The legendary George M. Dawson, a founding member and vice-president of CIM from 1898 to 1899, envisioned an organization that would attract people from all sectors of mining, geology, metallurgy, chemistry and other related industries. Dawson spent huge amounts of time in remote areas of Canada, developing deep relationships with the Indigenous communities he encountered and ultimately producing one of the earliest and most comprehensive (of the time) maps of the Canadian West.
